Marion Dorn — Rug Design for Claridge’s Hotel
Share
An interior view of Claridge’s Hotel in London featuring rug designs by the celebrated textile designer Marion Dorn.
Working during the 1920s and 1930s, Dorn played a pivotal role in redefining the role of carpets and rugs within modern interiors. Her designs combined the decorative rhythm of Art Deco with a bold graphic clarity that allowed rugs to function as architectural elements within a space.
For Claridge’s, Dorn created a series of striking floor compositions in which geometric carpets guide movement through the interior while reinforcing the symmetry of the surrounding architecture. The rugs transform the floor into a dynamic visual field, using pattern and contrast to anchor the spatial experience of the room.
Dorn’s work remains among the most influential examples of early modern carpet design, demonstrating how rugs can shape both the atmosphere and structure of an interior.
