Edition 03: Fitzroy — Limited Edition Rug

Fitzroy Square was laid out in 1790 to designs by Robert Adam, its east and south ranges faced in Portland stone. Virginia and Adrian Stephen took a house at number 29 in 1907. Six years later Roger Fry opened the Omega Workshops at number 33, where Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant made rugs, furniture and ceramics signed with nothing but a Greek letter. Fry believed that a design should not be too mechanical, and Omega's rugs kept the loose quality of the drawings they came from rather than over correcting it.

The Fitzroy is drawn in that same manner. Two deep, rich navy spirals turn across a sparse cream ground, each unwinding from a small hooked centre.

Hand-knotted at 100 knots per square inch in New Zealand wool and bamboo silk by Goodweave-certified artisans in Nepal, over several months on the loom. The navy bamboo silk line has a pure lustre against the more matte ground.
