Sterling Silver Candlesticks — Sheffield, 1794
Sterling Silver Candlesticks — Sheffield, 1794
A pair of late George III candlesticks, made in Sheffield in 1794 by John Green, Roberts, Mosley & Co. The form is neoclassical — fluted stems, stepped circular bases, restrained proportions — and the execution is exactly what Sheffield silversmithing at its peak could produce: precise, unhurried, built to last. Each base carries an engraved stag's head crest, the mark of an original private commission.
Two hundred and thirty years later they are in exceptional condition. Fully hallmarked with maker's marks and Sheffield assay marks. Sterling silver. Sold as a pair.
