Vase Ronces — René Lalique, 1921
Vase Ronces — René Lalique, 1921
Ronces — brambles — is one of the more physically arresting pieces in Lalique's glass catalogue. The form is dense and ovoid, the surface worked with tangled briar relief. This example is in electric blue glass with traces of the original white patina preserved in the recessed areas of the relief — a combination that intensifies the depth of the moulded detail considerably.
Lalique introduced the Ronces model in 1921, the same year his glassworks at Wingen-sur-Moder opened. It remains one of the purest expressions of his approach to the vessel as sculpture. Moulded R. Lalique signature to the base.
