Silver-Plated Vase — Christofle, Gallia
Silver-Plated Vase — Christofle, Gallia
A silver-plated vase from the Gallia collection by Christofle, the Parisian silversmith founded in 1830 and long regarded as the definitive French house for silver-plated tableware and objects. The Gallia line — introduced in the late nineteenth century as Christofle's electroplated pewter range — occupies a distinct position within the house's output: more sculptural than the standard tableware, more attuned to the decorative currents of its moment.
This piece is immediately legible as an object of considered design. Four lobed teardrop forms rise from a shared base, converging at the neck. The polished surface is unmarked and reflective. Marked to the underside, dating the piece to between 1935 and 1983.
